Reiki is not a cure-all, but it does involve you in your own healing, encouraging you to take responsibility for your own wholeness and health.  That means treating your body and your whole self with love and respect, which often means you have to be willing to make changes in your life, perhaps eating a healthier diet, doing some regular exercise or getting more sleep.  Other aspects of your life might also need to be examined. For example, are your major relationships healthy and loving?  Are you happy with your job?  Do you make time for hobbies and interests that add fun to your life?

Most people achieve a very deep state of relaxation during a treatment, which allows physical, mental or emotional stress to leave the body, reestablishing equilibrium and a feeling of well-being.  Basically, Reiki balances and works on four levels - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual - and as it flows through the person it adjusts to the recipient so that each person receives exactly what he or she needs at that time.
